Asia’s only great ape, Orang Utans live in the forests of Borneo. These fascinating orange-haired apes have suffered a dramatic decline in numbers over recent years, chiefly due to deforestation and palm oil plantations; they are protected in a number of national parks and sanctuaries. Sepilok is the largest sanctuary in the world and rehabilitates orphans and captured orang utans before releasing them back into the wild. Feeding time at Sepilok is an undoubted highlight of any trip to Malaysia.
At over 4000m, Mt Kinabalu is the highest peak in South East Asia. A well marked trail takes you up through a number of different vegetation zones; you start of in the rainforest floor, before moving into forests of chestnut and oak. As you move higher the vegetation changes again. Mists swirl all around you as you enter the cloud forest, a place dripping with orchids, pitcher plants and rhododendrons. The views at sunrise from Kinabalu are truly spectacular. Stay in a rest house before getting up early and making the final push. As the sun rises, what seems like the whole of Borneo unfolds before you, and on a clear day you can see as far as the Philippines.
A visit to Deer Cave is like stepping back into the land that time forgot. Deep in the dark mysterious forest, Deer Cave is more than a mile long and up to 700 feet high – and home to literally millions of bats. Every night there is a mass exodus of four to five million bats. As dusk descends great swarming clouds pour out of the cave on their daily forage for food. An incredible sight, great black streaks rise up from the cave like huge floating silk scarves. Deer Cave is in Mulu National Park and home to a vast cave network with incredible limestone formations and massive sink holes. If subterranean adventure is your thing then this is the ideal spot for some fantastic caving on your Malaysian adventure holiday. Alternatively, if you prefer the open air, then Mulu has one of the world’s longest tree canopy walkways. You will get to see a stunning range of rainforest animals - macaque monkeys, hornbills, flying lizards and much much more.

We booked our trip 6 months in advance and Paula was extremely helpful and efficient in arranging a private trip for our 2 families on dates that we requested. Our local guide Antonio and driver Alan were friendly, helpful, professional and went to infinite trouble to give us a fantastic holiday.
