but beautiful city and provides the start and end point of most trips. Outside the city lies a landscape just begging to be explored. The trekking in Iceland is fantastic, with a wide selection of walks the best way to experience its rugged terrain. Iceland is almost custom made for adventure holidays with visits to the impressive Gulfoss and Godafoss waterfalls, Lake Myvatn and the Jokulsarlon Lagoon. In winter there is the chance to try snowshoeing and glacier exploration. Iceland is also one of the best destinations for Northern Lights Holidays, but no holiday to Iceland would be complete without a visit to the steaming waters of the Blue Lagoon.
Iceland holidays are like a trip to an evolutionary theme park. Walk round one corner and look out over a landscape of volcanic craters and fissures. Turn the next and bubbling hot springs send sulphurous steam into the air against a backdrop of live volcanoes and black lava desert. Keep walking and you’ll hit the deep freeze – powerful waterfalls, deep fjords and mammoth icecaps. Arctic it may be, but when it comes to wildlife, wilderness and adventure holidays, Iceland is hot.
Holidays to Iceland – Four Icelandic Essentials
1 Explore the ‘Big Country’
While it’s not necessarily big in geographical terms, Iceland is massive when it comes to geological diversity and geographic features. The interior mainly consists of a plateau characterized by sand fields, mountains and glaciers, while many big glacial rivers stream to the sea through the lowlands. Trek up volcanoes, ice climb on glaciers or sit back and admire the eerie spectacle of the Northern Lights – Iceland’s wilderness landscape is one big adventure playground.
2 Bathe in the Blue Lagoon
After a hard day's mountaineering – or even if you just fancy a mudpack make-over – there is no better place to relax and revitalise than in the warm mineral-rich hot springs of the Blue Lagoon. This incredible geothermal pool is totally unique. A huge opal-blue spa, it is fed by heated seawater and surrounded by walls of black lava. Once you’ve floated around to your heart’s content try the extras – saunas and steam rooms and a powerful waterfall that gives a very good, very hot massage.
3 Walk through the water at Skogafoss Waterfall
Skogafoss is one of Iceland’s most impressive and beautiful waterfalls. At 60m high, a white blanket of water cascades over the edge of the cliff-top, crashing down to the river below. For an alternative view, you can walk right behind the waterfall - a compelling reminder of the power of the earth’s elements. As if you need reminding in Iceland…
4 Go whale watching
Iceland holidays offer some amazing spots for whale watching, its rich waters attracting a great diversity of whale species. Killer whales, humpback whales, pilot whales, white beaked dolphins, as well as sperm, fin, minke and blue whales are all regular sightings from Iceland’s whale-watching boats.

Private Adventures - your words, not ours...
We booked our trip 6 months in advance and Paula was extremely helpful and efficient in arranging a private trip for our 2 families on dates that we requested. Our local guide Antonio and driver Alan were friendly, helpful, professional and went to infinite trouble to give us a fantastic holiday. Louise Craddock Costa Rica Mixed Activity
