Itinerary

Agerola
to
Agerola
  • Day 1

    Start Agerola.

This trip starts in the village of Bomerano, on the Agerola plains above the Amalfi Coast. Enjoy a warm welcome from local hosts, the Acampora family, before settling in. Land only clients can arrive at any time, although we do recommend joining the group transfer at the airport as public transport options to the hotel are limited.

    Meals included: Dinner
  • Day 2

Boat trip from Amalfi to Positano; stroll among the winding streets of Positano.

After a short private transfer to Amalfi (30mins), we take the boat along the coast to Positano, a near vertical town of colourful buildings reached by a network of ancient paths and tracks. During the journey we take in the beautiful classic views of the Amalfi Coast and once in Positano we will start exploring this picturesque town, strolling among its winding streets and there is time to visit the beautiful Cathedral, enjoy a swim in the blue sea or visit the unique boutiques for some great shopping opportunities. We will also enjoy an optional lunch in a pizzeria and a refreshing Italian gelato before returning in the late afternoon to Bomerano by boat and minibus.

    Meals included: Breakfast Dinner
  • Day 3

Full day to visit impressive sites of Pompeii and Vesuvius.

Today we descend from the Agerola hills and take a transfer (approx. 45mins) to Pompeii, once a thriving port town until Vesuvius’ catastrophic eruption spanning two days in 79AD during which the city was buried in ash and pumice. Lost for 1700 years, Pompeii is now a UNESCO World Heritage site as the perfectly preserved remains give us an amazing insight into life in a Roman city, complete with bathhouses, bakeries and homes - some of which are still have walls adorned with detailed frescoes. You may take some time to explore the site independently but we recommend opting for a detailed tour accompanied by a local guide which can be hired locally for approx. €10pp depending on the group size. In the afternoon we head to the famous volcano that looms over the million inhabitants of Naples, Mt Vesuvius. The vehicle will take you at an altitude of approx. 1000m and from there to the crater you will need to ascend on a path which is approx. 150 meters long and quite steep in places. A local guide will then take you on a short walk along the rim of the crater and he/shewill explain you the fascinating history of Vesuvius and its volcanic activity. We return to the hotel by bus in the late afternoon.

Please note that in case of adverse weather conditions such as fog, storms or heavy rain the local authorities may deicide to restrict or prevent access to Vesuvius. In the event this inclusion cannot be offered on your departure, we will be taking you to Herculaneum to visit its perfectly preserved remains and virtual museum which give an amazing insight into the life of a Roman city.

    Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner
  • Day 4

Visit mozzarella producer and discover picturesque Amalfi; evening pizza-making class.

This morning we take a short transfer to visit a local cheese producer based in Agerola, where we have the opportunity to sample delicious freshly made mozzarella, prepared in front of us by hand following a centuries-old recipe. We may also have time to visit the small farm owned by the same family of cheesemakers. We then depart for a visit to vibrant Amalfi, which was popular with the British upper classes in Edwardian times. The large Duomo dominates the town with its bright coloured tiles so typical of the region. We have a few hours to explore the wonderful historic centre and alleys before taking an interesting tour of the Paper Museum, which celebrates the long-established paper making tradition in Amalfi. The guide will explain how the Amalfi paper was once made and you will also have the chance to experiment it yourself, using some of the ancient paper making machines which are still in working order for demonstrations.  We then make our way back to the hotel and enjoy a pizza-making class before dinner!

    Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner
  • Day 5

Free day to relax by the pool or for sightseeing.

Today is free to relax at the hotel's pool or by one of the local beaches. Alternatively you could enjoy a boat ride or other optional excusions including a trip to the vast buried city of Herculaneum and its virtual museum which offers an interesting virtual experience through images of how life was in 79 AD before the eruption. Another option is to visit Ravello, a charming and peaceful town perched high on the cliffs above Amalfi, famous for its stunning panoramic gardens and its impressive Cathedral. Your tour leader will not join these optional activities but will help you to arrange transport locally.

    Meals included: Breakfast
  • Day 6

Ceramic painting and walk along a short section of 'Walk of the Gods'.

The Amalfi Coast is also renowned for its colourful ceramics and this morning we visit a local artisan's 'bottega', where the kids will have the opportunity to paint a pottery souvenir!  Later we set off for a fun walk along a short section of one of the world's finest day walks: the 'Path of the Gods'. The route follows the contours of the land with amazing views of the Amalfi Coastline far below. In season the meadows are carpeted with flowers and the coastal waters teem with cruisers and pleasure boats. Please be aware that the terrain can be rocky or uneven at times and there parts which are a little exposed therefore not suitable for severe vertigo sufferers. After a barbecue lunch (included, weather permitting) we will return to the hotel on foot.

    Meals included: Breakfast Lunch
  • Day 7

Take boat to impressive island of Capri; visit the island and take an optional visit to Blue Lagoon.

After a scenic ride down to Amalfi (30 mins) we will board the boat to Capri. The journey along the Amalfi Coast is spectacular with small coves and bays of clear azure water overlooked by towering cliffs. The time spent on Capri is unguided and on arrival you are free to explore the island on foot, by boat or making use of the chairlift, from which you will be able to see the entire island. A beautiful walk will take you up to Capri town and along a network of small pedestrian streets to visit the remains of Villa Jovis, the former home of the fearsome Roman emperor Tiberius. A walk around the spectacular coastline is recommended and allows you to see a natural rock arch and the famous Faraglioni, rock stacks which stick vertically out of the sea. You may also go for a boat tour around the island's grottos, including the famous Blue Grotto, and then under the natural arch, where you will be able to take a swim in the beautiful blue waters. Please note that Capri gets very busy and crowded from May to October and it may be difficult to rely on public transport to visit the island independently. Your tour leader will therefore be offering you the option of joining him on a tour which will make use of private buses and chairlift (approx. €35pp payable locally).

    Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner
  • Day 8

    End Agerola.

    End at Bomerano hotel.

    Meals included: Breakfast

Accommodation

Hotel Due Torri

We spend 7 nights at the 3-star Hotel Due Torri in Bomerano, a small village in the municipality of Agerola, set high above the Amalfi Coast at an altitude of approximately 700m. Run by the warm and welcoming Acampora family, the Hotel Due Torri is well known for its great local cuisine, providing authentic dishes of the Campania region as well as fun pizza-making demonstrations. All rooms have en suite facilities, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi.

A limited number of superior rooms (with facilities including Jacuzzi bath, power showers and fridge) are also available for a supplement from £190 or equivalent per room payable pre-departure. Please ask your sales consultant for further info.

Being higher up in the hills the property offers the benefit of cooler nights, although beaches are not too far away and there is small outdoor pool. The village is generally quiet and provides a relaxing contrast to the busier towns by the sea.

On occasion if the hotel is full you might be offered (upon booking) to stay at an alternative accommodation located within walking distance from the Due Torri. Guests staying at alternative accommodation will still make use of all the facilities of Hotel Due Torri, including pool and restaurant.

    Fantastic family experience

I can't fault this trip. An excellent balance of guided tours and beach time/down time. I have to say that our guide Eduardo was a gem. Exodus are extremely fortunate to have him working for them. He is a gold mine of knowledge, full of conversation and great with the kids. I am sure that our experience and access to places you would never be able to reach are down to him. The pizza making was brilliant and the kids even joined the chef to cook our dinner one night! Thank you Exodus but more so thank you Eduardo.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Lunch in an old farmhouse on the walk of the Gods. Only accessible by foot or mule. Good food, good wine, good company... All overlooking Positano and the turquoise sea from 700metres!

What did you think of your group leader?

    Amazing. He made the trip.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

    No.

Trying to entertain an energetic 11 year old and their mum is no easy task but this holiday did exactly that! A perfect blend of culture and activity along with an experienced tour guide on what level of information to give, what pace to go and keep the interest of all ages. We loved it! Molto Beno

    Climbing Mount Vesuvius

What did you think of your group leader?

Eduardo was just great. You can tell he is very experienced and really made the holiday!

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Its always a little cooler on climbing the mountains so make sure that you pack a jumper/coat for that day!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The only thing that I would add is that ideally it would be great if the coffee machine was one for when you got back from day trips!

    Perfect pizza, heavenly Herculaneum

Brilliant planning meant that every day kept the kids occupied, entertained and interested. We loved Herculaneum, Pompeii and all the little towns. The walk of the gods was one of my favorite bits, which was a surprise to me. The scenery and lunch that day was phenomenal! The hotel was lovely - small clean and friendly. Excellent food and the kids loved the pool. Well worth the money.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Seeing Herculaneum was great - we wandered around looking at the street signs etc. The skeletons were very moving. We hired a pedaling and the kids all got to swim 'in the deep sea' which was very exciting for them.

What did you think of your group leader?

Group leader was excellent- knowledgeable, friendly, helpful. Felt like a good friend by the end of the trip.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take a hat and sunglasses and refillable water bottle. Pompeii doesn't let large bags in so take a small bag for your sandwiches etc

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Great trip, would like to do the walking tour!

A lovely holiday. A week of sunshine in late October. Great views, great food, fantastic historical and cultural sites.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Climbing to the summit of Mt. Vesuvius. Whilst a simple climb for many, I am visually impaired, so this was a great challenge for me. Our Leader, Suzie, was very supportive, knowing when to offer assistance and when to retreat. Fantastic views from the crater edge and what a buzz for the achievement.

    Amalfi coast with the kids

We took our two children, age 5 and 6, to Italy for the first time. In his words, my son Ben's verdict was 'Wowzers!.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

My 6 year old daughter was over the moon to climb around the crater of Vesuvius and feel the hot steam coming from the rocks. She's still talking about it at schoolo now and it's inspired her to draw pictures, write stories, play games, build Roman ruins from lego....it obviously made a huge impression.

What did you think of your group leader?

Can't fault her - really enthusiastic, organised and pre-empted all of our needs fantastically.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Our son Ben (5) needed a piggy back on the Walk of the Gods. I would conserve their energy on the active days so they don't get too tired before the adventure starts.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Great holiday - can't wait to do another one.

An overview of flight options

Exodus is committed to making joining our tours as easy as possible, wherever you live. We generally only block book seats from London, but this certainly does not mean that you need to fly from there. Depending on the route and airlines available, there will usually be various options available for those who want to fly from their local airport.

This page aims to provide a useful overview of the options available to our clients. However, the best flight arrangements should be tailored to your personal requirements, so please contact our Sales team for expert advice.

What kind of options do I have ?

1. We can book for you: Flights from anywhere in the world - not via London

Depending on the route, this may be direct or via an overseas hub like Amsterdam, the Middle East or elsewhere. On short haul routes there may be direct flights with low cost airlines, charter flights or scheduled airlines. Exodus can book most, but not all, of these for you. The most appropriate airline may be different to that which we use for the group flight from London, but many people now travel on different airlines and meet up with their fellow passengers at the destination.

Pros Cons
  • May be the most direct route
  • Often the extra fare compared to the London flight is minimal.
  • As you will be in the hands a single airline for your entire journey, the airline will be responsible for your bags and your connections.
  • You may not be able to join the group transfers. However, we can usually arrange private transfers, or book your flights to try and coincide with the group transfers. See notes on transfer arrangements below.

2. We can book for you: Connecting flights from your local airport to London

Exodus can book connecting flights to London so you can join the group flight there. Connecting times will be followed according to airline advice, or as requested by clients. There are two types of fares we can use for this option: a 'through-fare' or a 'published fare'.

a) A 'through-fare' is where you will be in the main airline's care throughout. You change planes, but your bags are checked all the way through to your final destination.

b) A 'published fare' ticket is completely seperate from your onward ticket from London. It is usually cheaper than a through-fare but will need to be paid for and issued as soon as it is booked. This can be a problem if your tour has not yet reached minimum numbers. On 'published fares' neither airline is aware that you have connecting flights, so Exodus is responsible for timing your connection, not the airlines involved. The tickets are also usually non changeable and non refundable.

Pros Cons
  • Depending on the fare type, Exodus or the airline is responsible for flight connections.
  • Through fare tickets can be expensive.
  • On a published fare, tickets must be issued immediately; tickets on published fares can be very difficult to change if onward flight times change; bags are not checked though to your final destination.
  • Published fares are non-refundable.

3. Booking some or all of the flights yourself

You can also book connecting air travel yourself, either to London, or all the way to the start point. There may be certain airlines or routes we don't have access to, so this is always an option. However, if you make your own travel arrangements you become liable for any delays, cancellations or missed connections, and Exodus is not required to offer refunds if you have trouble reaching the start of your trip.

Pros Cons
  • You might find cheaper fares, or routes not available to Exodus.
  • You are responsible for any delays or missed connections, and the cost of the tour is not protected should you miss your flight be cancelled.

 Notes on transfer arrangements

Sometimes it is possible to travel on a different airline to the group flight from London. Where this is the case, we need to think about ensuring you meet up with the group with minimum extra cost and hassle.

  • On certain trips, it is easy to arrive on a different flight and still meet the group at the hotel with time in hand. We can usually arrange private transfers (at extra cost) or offer advice on taking a taxi to the start hotel.
  • On other trips (especially in Europe), the transfer meets the group flight and then travels some distance to the first night's accommodation. Where this is the case, our Sales team will try to arrange flights that arrive before (and depart after) the group. However, we do have to make it clear in your final documentation that if your flights are delayed, the transfer cannot wait for you. While Exodus or our local operators will do what we can to help you reach the start point of the tour, any additional costs must be paid by the client.
