Gorillas and Masai Mara - 29th September departure

I have just booked myself onto this trip, I will be flying from Heathrow via Doha on the group flight.

It sounds so exciting! I can't wait to go and am looking forward to hearing from others who have booked to go too :)

Katherine.

Not too long to go now :) I have paid my final balance and have bought myself a new season 3 sleeping bag. I'm getting really excited now and can't wait to meet everyone else on the trip!

I did this trip in Januar. It was amazing.  Take layers and also good gloves, leather or strong, the stinging nettles get you. But the next day are Forgotten.

It is very slippery and you will fall on your bottom

you will get closer than you think, 😊👌

Hi Jojo,

Thanks for the tips, I have brought some gardening gloves which I'm hoping will do the job. I've applied for my East Africa visa online and went to get my antimalarials last night so I think I'm more or less all set. I can't wait! :)

Hi Katherine,

My boyfirend and I shall be joining you on this trip. SUPER excited about it all! I didn't realise you could sort the east africa visa out before going! Must look into this ASAP!

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for your message, I applied for my visa and heard back the next day so at least it's a quick process :)

I'm looking forward to meeting you and your boyfriend. Are you flying out from Heathrow? I can't wait either and can't believe how quickly it has come round!

Katherine.

Ian and I are flying out from heathrow but we are arriving on friday evening. We decided to give ourselves abit more time to acclimatise.

Thanks about the visa info, that's reassuring and hopefully the same for us.

Have you been given any great tips on what to bring with you? I'm not sure what to do about shampoo etc as it's supposed to be environmentally friendly.

Hi Sarah,

That sounds like a great idea having an extra day in Kigali to get used to the heat!

I didn't realise we need to take eco friendly shampoo etc, I need to have another read through the trip notes!

I've heard that it's a good idea to take gators for the day we hopefully see the gorillas and to take a combination padlock for the truck lockers. I've bought a 3 season sleeping bag and camping pillow so hopefully I will be warm and comfortable enough!

I need to find our electric adaptors we need to take too.

I'm flying out on the group flight on the Friday night so will see you both at the hotel in Kigali!

Katherine.

Hi all,

I did this itinerary exactly a year ago, it's fantastic.  On electric adaptors, you probably don't need them (though do take one just in case), you can charge your devices on the truck which has British style plugs, as do most of the hotels (from memory).

Gaitors, gloves, long sleeves, good walking boots are well advised for the gorilla trek and do make use of the porters ($10), they are worth their weight in gold, and save you spending time on your bum :).  It rains, (a lot) and can be quite cold, especially when you reach the gorillas and spend that previous hour with them.

There is a person at the hotel who will clean all the boots on return from the trip, they will be muddy.

If you get Kip and his crew as your tour leader you will be very well looked after.

Enjoy, and if you have any questions, fire away, though I'm off on another adventure myself soon.
