Cycle the Baltics

Really looking forward to cycling between Tallinn and Vilnius! I've never done a cycling trip before, and welcome suggestions re desired/necessary equipment beyond one's helmet. I'm open to obtaining cycling gloves, padded shorts. Already bought 2 white long-sleeved UVB shirts. Your recommendations? Thanks!

Hi Padded shorts are a must -you normally get what you pay for so go for a quality pair. Worth spending money on shorts! I found a handlebar bag very useful -buy one that can be removed easily -Decathlon do a cheap one it is good for mobile phones, suntan lotion and insect repellent or go for a backpack. I find the Exodus list useful.

I'm mainly worried about the cold - it's 4 degrees in Tallinn today!! Of course you do warm up while biking, but I'm starting to look out warm gloves and boots....... I don't wear technical clothing, so you'll all be ashamed of my clunky appearance, but I hope no-one will mind.

Anything that you are warm and comfortable cycling in goes! I think it is warming up - it is 17 degrees C in UK today (16th May - but raining) but only 9 degrees in Tallinn and Riga but 15 degrees in Vilnius. Let's keep an eye on the forecast. I wanted to travel light but will be putting in some extra layers until we travel South!

Agree about ditching 'travel light' in favour of 'bring stuff to keep you warm and cheerful'! Look forward to meeting you all - I'm flying a day early, to do some things in Tallinn, so I'll see you all at the hotel on Sat eve or Sun morning.
