Adventure Holidays in Antigua & Barbuda

Antigua may boast 365 beaches – one for every day of the year – but don’t let the sunbathers fool you. There’s much adventure to be had on a holiday to Antigua, where lush, intensely green tropical rainforests teem with exotic birdlife, the crystalline waters are just begging to be snorkelled or kayaked, and the streets fill with music in the evenings. Warm trade winds blew many men seeking their fortune to these islands, leaving a fantastic array of architecture at English Harbour, Nelson’s Dockyard – the only Georgian dockyard left in the world. It is also the perfect base from which to visit neighbouring Monserrat.

Antigua Highlights

1. Nelson's Dockyard: wonderfully restored to its former Georgian grandeur, the dockyard is a treasure trove for history buffs. Named after Admiral Nelson who lived here for three years from 1784.

2. Montserrat: travel to the nearby island to witness an active volcano from a safe location. It last erupted in 1995 and there are various vantage points.

3. Shirley Heights: enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Atlantic Ocean and discover Antigua's tropical countryside, picturesque village life and the calm, rolling hills.

4. St. John’s: the brightly-coloured buildings liven up the capital – the arts and crafts market near the West Bus terminal is a great place to pick up souvenirs.
