Looking at the icebergs from the zodiac

Antarctica

For many this is the ultimate wildlife and wilderness experience. This is nature at its most extreme

Adventure Holidays in Antarctica

An expedition to Antartica is the ultimate wilderness destination, a pristine area navigable only by small ice-strengthened vessels.

On the ice-bound seventh continent nothing comes easily, but your daring-do is richly rewarded, for this is the most unexplored place on the planet. Until recently Antarctica was accessible only to the men and women of meticulously planned pioneering expeditions. But following strict environmental guidelines, Small Groups on expedition vessels can now follow in the footsteps of those explorers and navigate through sea-sculpted bergs and groaning, crumbling glaciers to discover sights rarely seen by humanity.

Exodus are among the few who offer a range of adventure, activity and wildlife expedition voyages and holidays to Antarctica during the short summer months, when this harsh and inhospitable environment plays host to one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth: millions of penguins, petrels and albatrosses breed here, seals laze languidly on ice floes, and whales indulge Zodiacs benignly under virtual 24 hour daylight.

New 2018 Polar Photographic Departures

If you’re prepared to go to the ends of the earth for rarefied wildlife, this is the perfect temptation. Exodus’ Arctic and Antarctic photographic charters are exclusively for our travellers, and you’ll be joined by the most articulate, passionate and opinionated wildlife professionals on the planet. On board both charters will be zoologist, conservationist and award-winning author and presenter Mark Carwardine and Exodus’ resident photography and wildlife doyen Paul Goldstein. On the Antarctic one they will be joined by the BBC’s Chris Packham .  Head to Spitsbergen for bears, walrus, Arctic foxes and huge bird colonies and Antarctic Peninsula for vast penguin rookeries, huge glaciers and icebergs, whales and seals. Neither will have strict itineraries, both will maximise the many hours of daylight – we’ll see you on the ice.

Quotes from the experts:

"It’ll be a real pleasure to have several weeks to teach Paul and Chris a thing or two about photography (I know they’re both keen to learn) in one of my favourite places on the planet. And expedition adventures don’t come much more comfortable than on the Resolute.

Mark Carwardine

"One ship, three Canons…. this will be something. I cannot wait to lock horns with these ‘sometime’ friends again and help share the seventh continent with a hundred or so polar pilgrims. Will the three of us be talking at the end of it? Come and find out!”

Paul Goldstein

"You don’t have to go to the ends of the earth to get a good photo . . . but it helps! Snow and Ice, Golden Penguins, a Humpback Surprise . . . and these are just the cocktails at the bar! Seriously, this will be amazing.”

Chris Packham

Expert opinion…

Our Antarctic trips are Attenborough-worthy voyages of discovery, and we’re not the only ones who think so!

“Anyone who’s been sat slack-jawed in front of David Attenborough’s BBC series Frozen Planet will not necessarily have been thinking about their next holiday. But perhaps that’s not quite as daft as it sounds. UK travel company Exodus has a series of ‘polar itineraries’, which can take the more adventurous package holidayer towards either the Antarctic or the Arctic. You could practice your huskiest Attenborough voice on a 12-day trip to the Antarctic, which takes in the ominous-sounding ‘Iceberg Alley’ as well as the sneaky-sounding ‘Deception Island’, a 19th century refuge from icebergs and chilly polar storms.”
