Stay at the intimate, eco-award winning, luxurious Kicheche Valley Camp within the vast wilderness of the Naboisho Conservancy

Kicheche Valley Camp is a classic tented camp within the vast wilderness of the Naboisho Conservancy, located in a secluded valley.  You will be hosted by the wonderful Andrew and Marietta during your stay. The conservancy is a not-for-profit partnership established between eleven private camps and over 800 Maasai landowners. The sustainable approach enables landowners to benefit directly from wildlife conservation tourism and provides guests with an exclusive safari experience; low vehicle density critically allows off-road driving, unavailable almost anywhere else in Africa. At Kicheche, game viewing often begins at camp!

  • Day 1

Start Nairobi; transfer to the Naboisho Conservancy

Landing early in Nairobi we meet our guide and fellow passengers and start our six hour transfer to the Kicheche Valley Camp in the Naboisho Conservancy. Upon arrival we have time to settle into our luxury camp overlooking a secluded valley. Various animals frequently visit the camp so our safari experience may start right from the tent porch. Time permitting, we will go on our first game drive this afternoon.
    Accommodation: Kicheche Valley Camp

    Meals included: Dinner
  • Days 2-5

Days spent on morning and afternoon game drives looking for the area's prolific wildlife.

The next four days are spent exploring the Naboisho Conservancy in search of game. The verdant plains host a fabulous array of game such as gazelles, impala, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and eland. Never far away are the predators such as lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena. You may come across giraffe or elephant stripping the trees of vegetation, hippos lazing in the river or warthogs with their tails in the air.

Generally, we head out on game drives twice a day, in the early morning and late afternoon. Game drives don’t have a fixed schedule or itinerary and will vary depending on the animals encountered. All drives are undertaken in specialist 4WD Land Cruisers with seating for 6 people, plus the driver/guide. These specially designed vehicles have been customised for game driving with a pop up roof for optimum viewing and photography. We normally return to camp to relax during the hottest time of the day when the animals also take cover and are at their least active. During this downtime, it’s possible to freshen up at camp or relax and enjoy the views of the valley.

Meals are either taken outside in the shade (during the day) or under the stars (at night) or in the mess tent if the weather requires it. The food is of a very high standard and plentiful - it is quite an experience hearing the sounds of one of the world’s most prolific savannahs as you dine.
    Accommodation: Kicheche Valley Camp

    Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner
  • Day 6

    Return to Nairobi.

Depending on time and schedules we hope to have a final game walk this morning before heading back towards Nairobi (six hours). Anyone on the group flight will depart from Nairobi this evening, whilst Land Only clients will leave the group in Nairobi at the post trip Hotel. There should be time for some dinner at the hotel before heading to the airport for the flight.

    Meals included: Breakfast Lunch

Essential Info

Most nationalities do now require a visa for Kenya, including Britons, most EU nationals, Australians, New Zealanders, Americans and Canadians.  At present single entry and transit visas are available online (see below) and soon all visas will have to be obtained online. Alternatively visas are available in advance or on arrival. The Kenyan government are planning for all visas to be obtained online and may stop delivering visas on arrival on short notice. For the latest information please contact your local Kenyan High Commission or Consulate.
For information about the online application process please visit
The cost of the visa is US$50 for a single entry visa and US$100 for an East Africa visa (valid to travel in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda – if the website still says coming soon please check with the Kenyan High Commission) (
You will need to first register to the ecitizens website (including needing a photo 500px x 500px) before you can start applying.
For the application process itself you will need details of the accommodation used (which we will send you) and itinerary as well as a photo 5.5cm x 5.5cm and a scanned or photographed copy of your passport’s bio/photo page.
If after visiting Kenya you will also travel to Uganda and Rwanda, you may apply for East African Visa that will cover all three countries. This  visa is currently available upon arrival in Nairobi. Please contact the Kenyan High Commission to obtain more information about the combined visa from Kenya.

There are no mandatory vaccination requirements. Recommended vaccinations are: Polio, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Typhoid, Hepatitis A. Malaria prophylaxis is essential and we suggest that you seek advice from your GP or travel health clinic about which malaria tablets to take. Dengue fever is a known risk in places visited. It is a tropical viral disease spread by daytime biting mosquitoes. There is currently no vaccine or prophylaxis available for Dengue, and therefore the best form of prevention is to avoid being bitten. We recommend you take the usual precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

Eating and Drinking

All meals and drinks are inclusive whilst staying at Kicheche.

Hot drinks are brought to your tent each morning prior to the game drive commencing. Breakfast tends to be eaten on the plains and will usually consist of freshly baked biscuits. fruit, cakes, bacon, sausage, egg, juice and coffee or tea.

On return there is a large brunch/lunch. Tea is taken mid afternoon before the game drive.

A three-course dinner is served (weather permitting) by candlelight under the African sky.

Vegetarians are well catered for but please inform us before departure of any special dietary requests.

Kenya straddles the equator so showers can occur at any time of year, however the wettest period is April and May (we have no departures then) Due to the altitude of the Masai Mara (1550m) the night-time temperature is very comfortable, cool yet not cold. Daytime temperatures can get as high as 30 degrees but with low humidity. There can be light rains at the end of the year, but if anything this is a good thing as it cuts down the dust and brings out the colours. In the wet the roads can become difficult and a little patience and pushing may be required! Please be aware that over recent years weather patterns have changed and are now somewhat unpredictable.

Is this trip for you?

This small group and centre-based safari has been designed to maximise game viewing in a prime wildlife area. There are two six-hour transfers (between Nairobi and the Naboisho Conservancy on the first and last day of the trip). The rest of the time is spent game driving within the Conservancy, where the majority of roads are dirt which can be a bit rough, especially after the rains.

The time spent out on game drives and the distances covered will often depend on the whim of the wildlife we seek. As a rough guide early morning game drives set off at sunrise and return to camp late morning, whilst afternoon game drives begin around 4pm and return as darkness falls with sundowners on the plains.

Our accommodation is very comfortable: spacious and fully insect-proof canvas tents with cedar beds, linen, bedside tables, luggage racks and rugs. Bathrooms are en suite and equipped with a dresser, hot showers and flushing toilet and running water.

    Simply amazing

Simply amazing safari holiday. Arrangements were good from start to finish (thought the drive to the camp is long and, in parts, rough). From the early morning wake up call with a hot drink and lovely biscuits, to the sundowners on the plains, every day was a day of discovery and learning. The staff are incredibly knowledgable and helpful. The animals were plentiful and exciting to watch.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Watching a leopard stalk, catch, choke and start skinning a hare was the most inspirational moment of the trip - it was simply breathtaking to watch.

What did you think of your group leader?

Our driver and guide were both exceptional. They put us in exactly the right place to take some awe inspiring photographs, while at all times keeping safety of ourselves and the animals as a priority.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Don't take toiletries - the ones provided (shampoo, hand wash, conditioner, body wash) are just lovely, so you can save some valuable space in your luggage.

An overview of flight options

Exodus is committed to making joining our tours as easy as possible, wherever you live. We generally only block book seats from London, but this certainly does not mean that you need to fly from there. Depending on the route and airlines available, there will usually be various options available for those who want to fly from their local airport.

This page aims to provide a useful overview of the options available to our clients. However, the best flight arrangements should be tailored to your personal requirements, so please contact our Sales team for expert advice.

What kind of options do I have ?

1. We can book for you: Flights from anywhere in the world - not via London

Depending on the route, this may be direct or via an overseas hub like Amsterdam, the Middle East or elsewhere. On short haul routes there may be direct flights with low cost airlines, charter flights or scheduled airlines. Exodus can book most, but not all, of these for you. The most appropriate airline may be different to that which we use for the group flight from London, but many people now travel on different airlines and meet up with their fellow passengers at the destination.

Pros Cons
  • May be the most direct route
  • Often the extra fare compared to the London flight is minimal.
  • As you will be in the hands a single airline for your entire journey, the airline will be responsible for your bags and your connections.
  • You may not be able to join the group transfers. However, we can usually arrange private transfers, or book your flights to try and coincide with the group transfers. See notes on transfer arrangements below.

2. We can book for you: Connecting flights from your local airport to London

Exodus can book connecting flights to London so you can join the group flight there. Connecting times will be followed according to airline advice, or as requested by clients. There are two types of fares we can use for this option: a 'through-fare' or a 'published fare'.
a) A 'through-fare' is where you will be in the main airline's care throughout. You change planes, but your bags are checked all the way through to your final destination.

b) A 'published fare' ticket is completely seperate from your onward ticket from London. It is usually cheaper than a through-fare but will need to be paid for and issued as soon as it is booked. This can be a problem if your tour has not yet reached minimum numbers. On 'published fares' neither airline is aware that you have connecting flights, so Exodus is responsible for timing your connection, not the airlines involved. The tickets are also usually non changeable and non refundable.

Pros Cons
  • Depending on the fare type, Exodus or the airline is responsible for flight connections.
  • Through fare tickets can be expensive.
  • On a published fare, tickets must be issued immediately; tickets on published fares can be very difficult to change if onward flight times change; bags are not checked though to your final destination.
  • Published fares are non-refundable.

3. Booking some or all of the flights yourself

You can also book connecting air travel yourself, either to London, or all the way to the start point. There may be certain airlines or routes we don't have access to, so this is always an option. However, if you make your own travel arrangements you become liable for any delays, cancellations or missed connections, and Exodus is not required to offer refunds if you have trouble reaching the start of your trip.

Pros Cons
  • You might find cheaper fares, or routes not available to Exodus.
  • You are responsible for any delays or missed connections, and the cost of the tour is not protected should you miss your flight be cancelled.

 Notes on transfer arrangements

Sometimes it is possible to travel on a different airline to the group flight from London. Where this is the case, we need to think about ensuring you meet up with the group with minimum extra cost and hassle.

  • On certain trips, it is easy to arrive on a different flight and still meet the group at the hotel with time in hand. We can usually arrange private transfers (at extra cost) or offer advice on taking a taxi to the start hotel.
  • On other trips (especially in Europe), the transfer meets the group flight and then travels some distance to the first night's accommodation. Where this is the case, our Sales team will try to arrange flights that arrive before (and depart after) the group. However, we do have to make it clear in your final documentation that if your flights are delayed, the transfer cannot wait for you. While Exodus or our local operators will do what we can to help you reach the start point of the tour, any additional costs must be paid by the client.
