Self-Guided Cycling in Portugal: Mountains to the Sea

Fascinating region but expect a bumpy ride!

3
Loads of stunning scenery in a region with fascinating history, and some really interesting hotel stops. Although rated as easy, this is not a trip for people who aren't comfortable with cycling off-road. Many of the tracks are badly rutted and rocky, and you might find yourself having to do a fair bit of pushing. Even long sections of the tour that are classed as 'paved' are actually over large cobblestones - not a comfortable ride! The local Portuguese partners Vinitur don't seem well-organised. Though they provide a mobile phone for emergencies (nice touch admittedly), that's not much use when they fail to respond on either their office number or their mobile number. Plus they somehow contrived to cancel one of our hotel reservations.

Arctic Lights

artic lights, norway

4
I love the Vesteralen islands, they are beautiful and rugged and the coast line is amazing so was happy to see a trip to that part of Norway in the brochure for the northern lights. The weather was against us but we did see lights on the last night. Good activities during the day although with better weather we would have been able to do more - the visit to the space centre on Andoya was interesting and the chance to play mission control and fly the space craft Aurora was great fun. The accommodation at the Friluftssenter and the food was excellent and hosts/guide were informative, relaxed and entertaining.

Imperial China & Yangtze River Cruise

Imperial China & Yangtze River Cruise

5
This trip was all that was described to a "T". For only one exception and that was the stairs at some of the rail stations that did not have elevators, my expectation was much lower than what actually existed, so my advice would be pack very lightly and ensure that you can carry your luggage up and down those many stairs. Yes they prepared us for stairs, .....but not how many !! I was a solo female over 60 so did struggle sometimes and I am reasonably fit. Nevertheless the trip overall was excellent, and the experience on the sleeper trains was lets say "different", but at the very least, you are seeing life as the Chinese people live it and after all, isn't that what we travel for.

Inca Trail Titicaca & Nazca

Inca Trail, Titicaca & Nazca (plus Amazon extension)

5
This was a wonderfully varied trip, taking in the many different cultures, scenery and cuisine that define Peru. From the coastal regions, up into the Andes and down into the Amazon jungle. There are some long bus trips, but the scenery more than makes up for it. The sense of achievement at completing the Inca Trial, as well as the many, quiet, Inca sites along the route made the trip worthwhile. We added the 5 day Amazon trip to the end of the holiday and are glad we did. Although basic, the lodge was well appointed, with wildlife literally on the doorstep (resident tarantula under picnic table, two-toed sloth passing overhead and fireflies everywhere!).

Have just returned from this amazing trip- my first visit to Africa and it was better than I hoped for. Loved looking up at the night sky through the tent mosquito netting. So many hippos, crocs and elephants. Although it was hot there was always a lovely breeze on the water

Mont Ventoux Cycling Weekend

Ventoux 2016

5
This was a short, well organised and thoroughly enjoyable trip. The cycling was wonderful, building us up nicely to tackle Ventoux and we enjoyed some glorious scenery along with smooth and quiet roads. This was the first organised cycling trip that I had been on and it was a fantastic introduction. The hire bikes were good quality and the routes superb. The tour leader positioned himself at strategic points along the route to ensure that we followed the correct route and offered tips and advice where necessary such as gravel hot spots. Overall this was a fantastic trip and my only dilemma is whether to do it again next year.

This was my first trip with Exodus and I can truly say it exceeded my expectations. The adventure, the laughter, the fun and new friends was just exceptional. Every aspect of the time was well organised, great communication and support and our guide Sara was sensational! All the care, knowledge, attention and passion she has for her job was outstanding and she selflessly gave so much to us all. Exodus... Thank you. I will definately be booking another trip soon!

Cycling Bosnia & Montenegro

Cycling Bosnia & Montenegro

3
Potentially a brilliant trip, but needs some fine tuning. The Day Plans need reviewing - e.g Day 4 we did the beautiful ferry ride to the village of Rose, then headed up a pretty wicked incline but were stopped after 4km's for a +2hr olive grove tour! We then had to cycle on until gone 5pm in the rain to the outskirts of Kotor...there must be another olive grove...everybody complained about the early location of the stop. Equally Day 5 has that excellently sadistic 29 switchback climb up to Lovcen National Park...awesome..but why stop at the isolated alpine-style hotel, we were there by 3pm and were all bored senseless...made even worse by the relatively short ride the next morning to the historically fascinating (and with a much better supply of restaurants) town of Cetinje. We all agreed that we should have overnighted there rather than in the blasted hills. So, yes, a really good trip but the route needs some tweaking.
