My mobile is 07584672232. I'm in aus for 6 days, a recce trip for me more than anything. I arrive in Ho Chi Min on the normal arrival date, not sure what time will have to check. I ride most weekends in the South Downs, so plenty of hill climbs and up to 70k, have to admit with work I've to been for a few weeks. I've decided to staying in Hanoi for 5 days after the ride to look further north and some diving if possible. First exodus trip but heard great reports so v excited

I am on Facebook - sad for a man of my age - being technically in the ice age I find it easier to accept friends than find them. If you search on David Barker and find a picture of my shadow (honestly!) then I can simply push the accept button.

Hi dave, I can't find you on Facebook, lots and lots of David barkers !!

Anonymous

Hi - if you can narrow the search, I am the one from Baildon with the email address David.barker.14289210@facebook.com. By the way, I can't find you either.

A rather important question for you all. Anyone else having difficulty getting their hands on vietnamese dong? Banks over here don't do it!

Anonymous
Fri, 08/09/2013 - 19:17

Hi Alan, are you taking the dong ?? I was thinking of taking dollars, i am a travel agent so I'll check tomorrow when I'm back in work, I'm sure its a currency which is allowed to be taken into the country.

Anonymous
Fri, 08/09/2013 - 21:04

Ha! Bet you've been dying to say that. That would be great if you could. I'm not too far from Dublin if it helps. I have some dollars so i'll take them with me either way.

Anonymous
Fri, 08/09/2013 - 21:18

Haha, just relised what I'd put, just looking through photos of past trips to Vietnam, I'm worried what to pack ??? Typical girl do I take nice summer dresses and heels etc or just cashual shorts and jeans!!!! Oh the dilemmas us girls have !!

Anonymous
Fri, 08/09/2013 - 21:47

If I have a vote, then it's for dresses and heels:) but I bet you'd regret it after a couple of days. I think a mix would probably be best, and a good rain coat

Anonymous
Sat, 08/10/2013 - 14:52

Alan, just been to fin some Dong and the HSBC can get it in by order and takes a few days, nowhere does Cambodian currency though.
Helen dresses and heels work for me too, but cycling in them may be a small issue :-). Hope you all have a great weekend

Anonymous
Sat, 08/10/2013 - 15:27

Cheers Paul, but there are no branches here. I think Ulster bank might do them, i'll check on monday. The only other place I have found that do Dong is marks and spencer all the way up in Lisburn!!!

Hi Mat, looking forward to meeting you on the trip. What part of the world are you from mate?

Anonymous
Wed, 08/14/2013 - 16:42

Hi Paul (and everyone else who's found me on Facebook); likewise looking forward to meeting you all in a few weeks. I'm based in West London; my office is underneath the Heathrow landing approach; can't wait to be on one of those plane's jetting away to Vietnam (I'm flying out of Heathrow, but not on the group flight; arriving about half-an-hour behind that into Saigon).

Randomly has anyone else had problems getting the Typhoid jab, seemingly there was a mass-recall and is now in short supply (my Doctor is claiming that it's not that essential for Vietnam, but I'm trying a travel clinic as a backup)?

Anonymous
Wed, 08/14/2013 - 16:50

Hi matt, nice to of found you on facebook ! I haven't had any injection to travel to Vietnam I'm sure im upto date with every thing so I'm not going to bother with anything else.
Question for you all , are you takin your own bike helmet out there ?

Anonymous
Wed, 08/14/2013 - 20:05

No dramas getting typhoid or any other jabs, just a very achy arm after!

Anonymous
Wed, 08/14/2013 - 20:06

I'm taking my own helmet, saddle and peddles. An old friend recommended this to me

Anonymous
Wed, 08/14/2013 - 21:17

Ok will pack my helmet, think I have enough padding on my backside so I'll manage with there saddles are you taking cleats or normal peddles ?? X

Anonymous
Wed, 08/14/2013 - 22:01

Cleats for me!! Have a tender butt so best take some padding! Bought some energy bars and shots to take too...

Anonymous
Wed, 08/14/2013 - 22:02

Just ad to book a ski break too, loving this travelling malarky x

Anonymous
Wed, 08/14/2013 - 22:11

SPD cleats for me, not bringing a saddle but have good shorts so should be ok. Have that itchy typhoid arm right now.

Anonymous
Wed, 08/14/2013 - 23:11

Likewise, bringing my own helmet, a saddle-post mounted rackbag (to avoid carrying too much weight on my back and keep my hopefully keep my SLR snug) and a small camelbak; plus a bunch of gels and re-hydration jobbies. I'm planning on just using my usual padded shorts with whatever saddle they have out there, but bringing a padded seat cover as a backup just in case.

Anonymous

Yep count down begins, I'm just waiting for my visa , got my dong, not going to take my cleats just going to go with what ever is on the bikes, Hoping there's other girls on the trip !!! Really excited about the different culture were heading too, my exodus trip last year was amazing so hoping this one will be just as good.

Anyone taking malaria tablets? Or are we far enough away from the worst areas for the deet to be sufficient? Btw, also not taking cleats and feel my a*s with padded shorts will suffice - anyway, thought was for fun not a race? Or will it be both! Can't wait for the tunnels (may need a gentle encouragement to get my ageing bones down there).

Anonymous
