Do you want to be part of the Shackleton anniversary club?
In 2015, Exodus will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Ernest Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914-1917) with an exclusive expedition to South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula. Ice permitting, we may even visit the Weddell Sea where the expedition ship Endurance was trapped in the ice in 1915. What followed was a story of survival, heroism and true camaraderie with names such as Crean, Hurley, Wild and Worsley entering the pages of history under the remarkable leadership of the man known as "The Boss", Sir Ernest Shackleton. Comfort levels may have improved since the James Caird but the thrill and excitement of the Southern Seas has thankfully remained the same.
Join Paul and Chris aboard the Akademik Sergey Vavilov for an expedition beyond compare as she sails from the Falklands to South Georgia then proceeds south to the Peninsula one hundred years on from Shackleton’s fateful journey. Paul and Chris have worked and presented together many times and are both very excited about this departure. Millions of King penguins, towering early season icebergs and many other maritime species await!
Paul says: Whether it is through a camera or other optics, be they mechanical or anatomical, South Georgia is Nirvana and having extended time there is an intoxicating elixir. To add the early season bewitching magnificence of Antarctica is an absurd assault on already battered senses.
Chris says: There is obviously nowhere else like it on earth, and nowhere with more photographic possibilities. And there is no one with as much energy and enthusiasm to explore and enjoy it as Paul Goldstein and Packham – it’s not going to penalties!
